Game Guides
Introduction

This guide will explain how to change the window size and run multiple copies of the game on one computer at the same time. Some players have previously used Full Screen Mode to play the game. As of February 2008 Full Screen Mode has been removed as an option when running the game, however there are ways to make it appear as though it is running full screen.

Changing the Window Size

You can run the EA-Land client in two different window sizes. The default (large) size is 1024x768 pixels and the smaller size is 800x600 pixels. To run the game in the smaller 800x600 size you will need to modify the shortcut you use to launch the game by following the steps below:

  1. Locate the EA-Land (The Sims Online) shortcut on your desktop.
  2. Right click the EA-Land (The Sims Online) shortcut and select "properties".
  3. If not already selected, click the "Shortcut" tab at the top of the propery page.
  4. In the box labeled "Target:" add the following, including a leading space, to the end of the line.  -r800x600
  5. The "Target:" box should now look like this. "C:\Program Files\Maxis\The Sims Online\TSOPatch\TSO.exe" -r800x600
  6. Click "OK".
Your shortcut properties should look something like this:

Note: If you have installed the game using a location other than the default, or installed using the EA-Land installer you will need to substitute your location in place of the example provided.

To return back to the default large (1024x768) window size, repeat the steps above and remove -r800x600 from the end of the Target.

"Full Screen" Mode

Since the official full screen mode has been removed as an option, there is no longer a way to run the game full screen on monitors that are set at a resolution (size) larger than 1024x768. To make the game appear as though it is running in full screen mode you can adjust your screen resolution so it matches the size of the game window. Follow the steps below to set your screen resolution:

  1. Determine which window size you are using by following the steps in Changing the Window Size. It will either be 1024x768 or 800x600.
  2. Access your Display Properties by right-clicking an empty area on your desktop and selecting "Properties" or by going into your Control Panel and clicking "Display".
  3. Inside the Display Properties window click on the "Settings" tab.
  4. In the lower left portion of the window you will see a slider titled "Screen Resolution" and a resolution displayed below.
  5. Move the slider either up or down until the resolution displayed below matches your game window size.
  6. Click on the "OK" button to set your screen resolution to the size you just selected.
If you run your game at the default 1024x768 window size, your Display Properties should look like this:

Now when you run your game it should fill up the entire screen just as it did when the full screen mode option was available. If you find your desktop is too small when not playing the game, you can repeat the steps above to return your screen resolution to what it was before you changed it.

Running Multiple Clients

Warning: This method of loading the game is not supported by EA and may have unexpected results. Use it at your own risk.
Many players like to run two copies of the game at the same time. This can be useful for people who own two accounts, but do not own two computers. Running two copies of EA-Land at once is fairly simple, and can be done by copying the EA-Land shortcut and modifying the properties. Here are the steps you can take to create a new EA-Land shortcut on your desktop:
  1. Locate the EA-Land (The Sims Online) shortcut on your desktop.
  2. Right click the EA-Land (The Sims Online) shortcut and select "copy".
  3. Right click on an empty area on your desktop and select "paste".
  4. Right click on the newly created icon titled "Copy of The Sims Online" and select "Properties".
  5. If not already selected, click the "Shortcut" tab at the top of the propery page.
  6. In the box labeled "Target:" copy the following (including the quotes) and replace the text already in the box with what you copied. "C:\Program Files\Maxis\The Sims Online\TSOClient\TSOClient.exe" "-CSCity:EA Land"
  7. In the box labeled "Start in:" copy the following (including the quotes) and replace the text already in the box with what you copied. "C:\Program Files\Maxis\The Sims Online\TSOClient"
  8. Click "OK".
Your shortcut properties should look something like this:
